  • England and Scotland have never faced each other before in a men’s T20I fixture, their four previous clashes all coming in the ODI format, England winning the first three of those but Scotland winning the most recent in 2018.
  • Scotland are competing in their sixth men’s T20 World Cup and a fourth consecutive edition, they qualified by winning the European Regional Final, winning all six of their matches including an eight-run victory over Ireland in the final round.
  • Scotland have lost seven of their last eight men’s T20 World Cup matches, their solitary victory in that time coming in their first group stage game in 2022 against West Indies, but it wasn’t enough to secure passage to the Super 12 stage as they subsequently lost to Ireland and then Zimbabwe.
  • Scotland have won their opening games in each of their last two men’s T20 World Cup appearances, beating Bangladesh in 2021 and West Indies in 2022, England have just a 50% win rate in their tournament openers (W4, L4), although they also won their first match in both 2021 and 2022.
  • England won the 2022 men’s T20 World Cup, becoming just the second side after West Indies to win the tournament on multiple occasions (also 2010 in West Indies), no side has ever won consecutive editions of the competition.
  • England have a collective bowling strike rate of 17 in men’s T20Is since the start of 2023, the best such rate among full-member sides; however, this strike rate goes up to 21.9 in the Powerplay phase, with only West Indies (30.3) and New Zealand (24.3) recording higher such rates during the same span.
  • Phil Salt (England) has scored 26.3% of his team’s runs in men’s T20Is he has played in since the start of 2023, the highest such rate among full-member side batters to have batted in at least 10 innings during this span; Salt has scored at an average of 81 over his last five innings, scoring both his T20I tons over the first two games of this stretch (109* & 119 both vs West Indies in December 2023).
  • George Munsey (1,882 runs) is 118 away from becoming the second Scotland batter to score 2,000 runs in men’s T20Is after Richie Berrington (2,092 runs); both of Munsey’s tons in the format were more than 118 runs (132 vs Austria in July 2023 & 127* vs Netherlands in September 2019), however, he is yet to score a ton in the T20 World Cup.
  • Chris Jordan (98 wickets) is two away from becoming only the second player to take 100 wickets for England in men’s T20Is (Adil Rashid – 110); however, the last time he took multiple wickets in an innings in the format was on 13 November 2022 (2/27 vs Pakistan).
  • Scotland’s Ollie Hairs has scored 420 runs on a strike rate of 172.8 in men’s T20Is, the highest by any Scotland batter and third highest overall (min. 20 innings) in the format after Canada’s Dilon Heyliger (180.6) and Oman’s Rafiullah (175.6); Harris is also one among three Wildcats to score a ton in the format (127* vs Italy in July 2023).
