Axar Rajeshbhai Patel is a India international cricketer born on January 20, 1994, in Gujarat. The left-handed batter and left-arm orthodox bowler plays in all cricket formats. The all-rounder from Gujarat made his first-class debut for his state in 2012 and had a breakthrough Ranji Trophy 2013–14 season. Axar soon converted his good form from domestic season in IPL 2014, which opened the doors for the in in the national side. He made his ODI debut in the series against Bangladesh. Axar included in India's squad for the 2015 World Cup. In the same year, he later made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe. Often seen as an understudy to senior India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, he struggled to keep his place in the Indian team. Patel made his Test debut in 2021 when he was named in the squad for the home series against England in February as Jadeja was out injured. The left-arm spinner, made the most out of the opportunity as he became the ninth Indian spinner to grab a five-wicket-haul on debut in Ahmedabad. In a space of 12 Tests, Axar completed 50 scalps under his belt in the red-ball format. After having the assuarance of having a longer rope in the Test side, Axar's confidence kept increasing and he started delivering with the bat as well. In the home Test series against Australia, the left-handed batter scored 264 runs in 5 innings and averaged 88, with 84 being the highest score. His maiden ODI century came in 2022 against West Indies at Port Of Spain where he scored 64* off 66 balls. His second ODI fifty came in Mirpur against Bangladesh.
