Mohammed Shami is an Indian international cricketer, who is known for his ability to bowl at genuine pace and swing the ball both ways. Shami was born on 3 September 1990 in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. He is a right-arm fast bowler, who carries the reputation of being ""unplayable"" on his day.
The bowler achieved several significant feats and has been among the mainstays of Indian bowling unit. Shami earned his maiden India call-up after an impressive season in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy with Bengal. He made his international debut in January 2013 against Pakistanand delivered a record-setting four maiden overs. In the same year, during his Test debut against West Indies, Shami took nine wickets, with a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
Significantly, in 2019, he became the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 ODI wickets, besides the second Indian to take a hat-trick in a World Cup match. He also joined Chetan Sharma, Kapil Dev, and Kuldeep Yadav in the India's ODI hat-trick club.
Shami earned an IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders amid local players in 2011 but didn't make his debut until 2013. In the 2014 IPL season, he moved to Delhi Daredevils, now-rechristened Delhi Capitals, and stayed with them until 2018. The national capital side later bought Mohammad Shami for Rs 3 crore at the auction as his stock grew as an Indian players.
He spent two years in Kings XI Punjab as well after being bought for Rs 4.80 crore. Shami was bought by Gujarat Titans in 2022 for Rs 6.25 crore and became IPL champion for the first time later that year.
In 2021, Shami, the only Muslim player on the national squad at the time, became a victim of a public fallout following India's loss to Pakistan during the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup because of his religion. However, his peers publicly supported him following the abuse. Shami married Hasin Jahan (a model and cheerleader) in 2014, and the couple had a daughter. However, in 2018, Jahan accused Shami of domestic violence and dowry harassment. Following a domestic abuse case, a Kolkata judge directed the pacer to give estranged wife Hasin Jahan Rs 1.30 lakh monthly alimony.
