Noor Ahmad Lakalwan is one of the youngest cricketers of Afghanistan, who plays in all cricket formats. Noor was born on January 3, 2005, in Herat, Afghanistan. This talented left-arm unorthodox spin bowler began his cricketing journey at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks to represent his country.
Noor made his First-Class cricket debut for Kabul Region in the 2019 Ahmad Shah Abdali Tournament on April 2019 at the age of 14. The same year in October 2019, he made his Twenty20 debut for Mis Ainak Knights in the 2019 Shpageeza Cricket League. Following his impressive crafty bowling in the tournament, Noor got a chance to join the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup Afghanistan squad.
Ahmad made his List A debut on October 2020 for Mis Ainak Region in Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional Tournament. He also had the opportunity to participate in various domestic leagues, including the Big Bash League (BBL) and Indian Premiere League (IPL). In 2020, Noor Ahmad was signed by the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League, becoming the youngest overseas player to represent the franchise.
Regarding his IPL, Noor was included as a net bowler in the Chennai Super Kings squad for the 2021 Indian Premier League. He joined Gujarat Titans later in the 2022 IPL season after being purchased by the franchise for INR 30 lakhs.
He became an integral member of the franchise in the 2023 season as the spinner took 16 wickets in 13 games in the season while forming a strong bowling line-up with Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma. He bowled an impressive 2/18 in the final against Chennai Super Kings, while picking the big wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Gujarat Titans eventually finished runners-up.
Noor didn't make his international debut until 2022, despite being part of the Afghanistan national team since 2021 for several T20 or ODI series. He made his T20I debut on June 2022 for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe. Ahmad made his ODI debut on November 2022 against Sri Lanka the same year.
