Rahul Desraj Chahar is an Indian international cricketer, who played for the India U19, U23, and India-A teams. He was born on August 4, 1999, in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India and is cousin of India cricketer Deepak Chahar.
Rahul is a right-handed leg-break spinner with excellent batting abilities. Like his cousin, Chahar plays domestic cricket for Rajasthan, for whom he made his first-class and List-A debuts in 2016-17.
Rahul Chahar made his first-class debut at the age of 16 in 2017 against Odisha. In the game, he bowled for an impressive 1/24 in nine overs, three of which were maiden overs. The same year, he made his List-A debut against Madhya Pradesh. Two seasons on, he was the leading wicket-taker for Rajasthan with 20 wickets in nine games in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Following his outstanding domestic performances, Rahul's IPL journey began after he was selected for the Rising Pune Supergiant team in IPL 2017 and played three games before the franchise cease to exist. The following year, he signed up with Mumbai Indians (MI) for a whopping sum.
In the 2018 season, he played 13 games and claimed 13 wickets, and established himself as Rohit Sharma's go-to man for breaking partnerships. Notably, he also won the Dream11 Game Changer award for the season. After being associated with MI till 2021, he was signed by Punjab Kings in the 2022 IPL and played all but one game for them in the season.
As a result of his steadily improving performance at the first-class level, Rahul made his India debut in the shortest format against the West Indies in August 2019. Following the tour, he was out of the team for a period amid stiff competition for spinners in the squad and made a return in 2021 for the tour of Sri Lanka with maiden call up in ODI team. He made his debut in ODIs with a sole game in the series. He took 3/54 in the game and scored 13 with the bat in the lower order for a losing cause.
