Born on 19 April 1995 in Rohtak, Haryana, Deepak Hooda is an Indian international cricketer. He played for Baroda before moving to Rajasthan ahead of the 2022 domestic season. He currently plays for Lucknow Super Giants in Indian Premier League.
An allrounder who can bat in any position and a part-time off-spinner in times of crisis, Hooda has been a well-recognised figure in the short format of the game.
In his early years, Hooda played both as a wicketkeeper and a batsman before becoming a batting all-rounder. He was a part of Baroda's U17 and U19 age group teams before he was drafted into the Indian U-19 side.
He first came to the limelight during his U-19 days, when he was one of India's go-to players in 2014. His most notable innings for the youth side came against Sri Lanka in U19 UAE World Cup in 2014. He scored 76 in the semi-final and won Player of the Match for his spectacular innings.
Hooda started his domestic career in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Baroda in 2013 and made his first-class debut a year later. He scored a century in his first-class debut becoming the only second player to do so from Baroda.
His domestic performance earned him an IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals in 2015. But he could only manage 151 runs in 15 games that season and was released by RR the following season. Though his continual improvement was duly noted by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team who snapped him in 2016 for a massive price of Rs 4.2 crores. He was bought for 42 times his base price. However, once again he was not able to repay SRH's trust in him during the tenure of three years.
He just put together 309 runs in three seasons, picking three wickets. He was released by the franchise in 2020 and was bought by the Kings XI Punjab. His time with Punjab also went underwhelming.
Hooda next was snapped up by Lucknow Super Giants during the 2022 IPL mega auction for Rs 5.75 crores and this move changed his fortune. In his first season with LSG, he registered his best-ever season in IPL with 451 runs in 15 games.
In this period he also made his international debut. Hooda got his well-deserved chance to wear the national shirt against West Indies in the ODIs in 2022. He made his T20 debut in the following series against Sri Lanka. He scored his maiden T20I hundred against Ireland in Dublin the same year and was part of India's squad for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.
