Krishnappa Gowtham is an Indian cricketer who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and Lucknow Super Giants in Indian Premier League. Born on 20 October 1988, he is an off-spinner and explosive lower-order batsman primarily seen as a T20 specialist.
Gowtham came to prominence with the U-15 Karnataka side. In the under-15 zonal tournament, he became the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker. He slowly progressed through the ranks and made his debut in November 2012 against Bengal. From that point on, the Bangalore youngster had it easy as he continued to thrive in every consecutive season. In the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, Gowtham picked up 18 wickets in just three games which earned him a call-up to the Indian A squad.
However, he was soon involved in a controversy. He missed the 2017 Duleep Trophy pleading illness, but he returned to the ground a few days later to participate in the Karnataka Premier League.
However, it did not impact his professional career. In 2018, Gowtham was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL auctions for a whopping Rs. 6.2 crores. Not only with the ball, the Karnataka all-rounder made a significant impact with the bat also in the lower order. He took 11 wickets and scored 126 runs that season as RR reached the playoffs.
However, some inconstant performances in the 2019 season saw the franchise cut him loose, and in the next auction Kings XI Punjab snapped him up. He has played in two other franchises since then. In 2021, Chennai Super Kings signed him while in the 2022 auction, Lucknow Super Giants picked him up.
On the back of impressive domestic and IPL performance Gowtham has earned his national team call-up also. He made his One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka in 2021 where he nicked in one wicket.
