Samuel Matthew Curran is a well-known English international all-rounder, who plays in all cricket formats. This left-handed batsman, who is eligible to play for South Africa, Zimbabwe, and England, was born on June 3, 1998 in Northamptonshire, England.
Sam earned praises early in his career as his performances for Surrey at the U15, U17, and Secondary XI levels were applauded by England greats.
Following this, he got a chance to make his First Class debut in July 2015 against Kent in the County Cricket Championship and set a record of being the youngest bowler ever to bag five wickets.
Curran's consistently outstanding performances earned him maiden England call-up in 2018 for the Trans-Tasman Tri-Series against Australia and New Zealand. However, he didn't get a chance to play in that tournament and had to wait a bit more to make his debut.
Curran eventually made his international debut in a Test match against Pakistan at Headingley, Leeds, on June 2018. A Test later, following four first-innings wickets and a counter-attacking half-century against India, he won his first Man-of-the-Match award. Sam made his ODI debut in a thriller against Australia in the same year.
His stellar performance didn't go unnoticed by the IPL franchise, and thus, he was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs 7.2 crore in 2019.
Even in IPL, he set a record of becoming the IPL's youngest player to take a hat trick.
After being released by Punjab Kings the following year, Curran was signed by Chennai Super Kings and played for them till 2021. He unexpectedly sat out of the IPL 2022 due to national team commitments.
Sam emerged as the most expensive purchase in the history of the Indian Premier League after being acquired by Punjab Kings for a whopping amount of INR 18.5 crore ahead of the 2023 IPL.
Sam comes from a cricket family as he is the brother of English all-rounder Tom Curran, who has played for England in all forms of the game. He is also the son of Kevin Curran, a former cricketer for Zimbabwe.
Sam Curran is reported to be in a long-term relationship with Isabella Grace, who is also known as Isabella Symonds Willmott.
