Amit Mishra is an Indian cricketer who plays for Haryana in domestic cricket and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. He is an attacking right-arm leg-break bowler and keeps the potential to trap batsmen with his orthodox googly.
In the 2000–01 season, he made his debut in first-class cricket. Mishra joined the Haryana squad, which was in need of a leg-spinner at the moment after Delhi overlooked him.
He began his career as a batsman, but his coach Sanjay Bhardwaj helped him develop his ability at turning the ball. He first caught the eye while troubling the England Under-19 tourists in 2001 with big turns and googly. Later on, he quickly cemented his place as a crucial member of Haryana's Ranji Trophy team by picking up tonnes of wickets in the usual Indian conditions.
His impressive tenure got rewarded with an IPL contract in 2008. One of the top wicket-takers in the tournament, Amit Mishra has played in four different IPL teams in his career so far. He started the journey with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and immediately made his mark with 11 wickets to his name.
After three seasons with them, he was picked to represent Deccan Chargers in 2011 and later by the Sun Risers Hyderabad. IPL 2013 was his notable tournament where he scalped 21 wickets. He rejoined Delhi in 2015 before joining Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 50 Lakh in IPL 2023 where he will bring his vast experience to the board.
Mishra has recorded his great mark in international set-up as well. He made his debut in 2003 during an ODI triangular in Bangladesh although had to wait until 2008 to get his first go in Tests against Australia. He startled the Australians with his variations, ending the series with 14 wickets from three Tests, becoming the sixth Indian to record a five-wicket haul on debut.
Over the next few years, Mishra evolved as a useful weapon in the Indian conditions in Tests and ODIs producing some memorable moments. However, his international show had always been hot and cold while the emergence of the likes of younger options like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made things hard for him in international stage.
