Anukul Roy is an Indian cricketer who represents Jharkhand domestically and plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Roy was born on 30th November 1998 and hails from Birha, a remote village in Bihar. He is a reliable all-rounder who is useful with both bat and ball. Roy is a slow left-arm orthodox spinner and an aggressive lower middle-order left-handed batsman.
Despite hailing from Bihar, Roy had to move to Jharkhand to pursue his cricket dreams just like Ishan Kishan as they did not play in Ranji Trophy at that time. Roy had represented Jharkhand Under-19s before making it into the India U19 Team after catching the eye of coach Rahul Dravid. He was included in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and was the joint highest wicket-taker in the in the tournament.
Roy made his List A debut for Jharkhand in the 2017–18 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 8 February 2018 and first-class debut for Jharkhand in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy on November 1, 2018. He also became the leading wicket-taker for Jharkhand in the tournament, with 30 dismissals in nine matches.
Roy was eventually snapped up in the Indian Premier League by Mumbai Indians back in 2017 but he was not given enough chances to shine for the Mumbai franchise. In February 2022, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the auction for IPL 2022 and played twice for the Purple and Golds in that season.
Anukul Roy has a frame of 5 feet 8 inches and has a body weight of 60 kg and idolizes India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. He is just 24 years of age ahead of the IPL 2023 campaign and has an immense potential and could turn out to be a fantastic asset for KKR.
