Jofra Chioke Archer is a cricketer, who represents England in all international cricket formats. Archer was born on April 1, 1995, in Bridgetown, Barbados. Before relocating to England, Archer developed quickly as a fast bowler in Barbados. During the period, he also represented West Indies Under-19s in 2014 in three matches.
Upon moving to England, Archer began to play domestic cricket in England after being selected by Sussex. He made his First-Class debut for the County side in 2016 against Hampshire. His express pace left an impression as he bagged a Big Bash League contract with the Hobart Hurricanes in 2017. The England Cricket Board modified its policies in light of Archer's outstanding performance to allow him to join England's team for the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Archer made his ODI debut in May 2019 against Ireland in Dublin and picked up 1/40. A couple of days later, Archer also made his T20I debut against Pakistan and took 2/29 in his four overs. Notably, he was the third-highest wicket-taker in the 2019's World Cup. He played all 11 games for England, took 20 wickets, and bowled the winning super over in the World Cup final against New Zealand. After the tournament ended, the ICC named him as the rising star of the squad and also included him in the team of the tournament.
However, frequent injuries in the recent past has marred his career and also forced him to miss the 2021 season due to elbow surgery, including the IPL. Archer's maiden outing in the most-popular franchise tournament came in 2018 after Rajasthan Royals bought him during the auction for a sumptuous amount.
Archer made his IPL debut on April 22, 2018, against the Mumbai Indians. He took three wickets and was also named the player of the match. In 2020, Archer won the IPL Most Valuable Player award with Rajasthan Royals. He was associated with the Rajasthan franchise till 2021, upon which he was bought by Mumbai Indians during a mega auction as the side revamped their squad.
