Philip Dean Salt is an English cricketer who plays for Lancashire county cricket club in County cricket. Salt is an aggressive right-handed opener batsman and bowls right-arm medium-pace occasionally. He was born on August 28, 1996, in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, Wales.
Salt played for Guildford Cricket Club in 2013 before getting a junior contract at Sussex in 2014 on the recommendation of former Surrey cricketer Keith Medlycott. In the 2014 Sussex Cricket League, he impressed many with his powerful batting. He scored 200 not out off 129 balls against Horsham and then 147 not out against the Preston Nomads. In the 2015 Royal London One-Day Cup, Salt played his first List-A match against Essex. The following year, he made his first-class debut for Sussex during Pakistan's tour of England.
Though his brilliant performance led him to join England's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the one-off match against Pakistan, he didn't get the chance to play. Salt made his ODI debut on July 2021 for England against Pakistan. And a few months later, in January 2022, he got a chance to make his T20I debut against the West Indies. In June 2022, Salt scored his first century during an ODI match against the Netherlands with 122 runs.
After participating in several countries' franchise leagues, his flamboyance at the top of the order helped him grab worldwide attention. Notably, he played for Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League, etc.
His IPL career started in 2023 after Delhi Capitals spent big on him. The batter scored two half-centuries in the season, including a match-winning 87 against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who saw a half-century by Virat Kohli laid to waste. His maiden fifty in the tournament came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in front of the home fans. Capitals, however, had a poor season overall as they finish among the bottom teams.
