Shreyas Iyer IPL Profile

Shreyas Iyer is an Indian international cricketer who serves as the captain for the Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Born on 6th December 1994 in Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer is one of the most aggressive batters India have right now and is the key player for KKR.

He is a right-handed batsman who has played in a number of positions across the batting order but is mostly used as a top-order batsman. He is also capable of delivering an occasional spell with the ball. He is a right-arm leg-break bowler. Blessed with a frame of 5 feet 11 inches, Iyer has a body weight of around 65 kg.

Iyer was formerly on the books of Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals) between 2015 and 2021 but was snapped up by KKR in 2021 as they looked for a young and dynamic skipper. He made headlines when Delhi Daredevils bought him at the 2015 IPL auction for Rs 2.6 crore as he became the highest-earning uncapped player in the tournament.

He won the IPL Emerging Player of the Year award in his debut season (IPL 2015) with the Delhi franchise. Over the next six seasons, he became a mainstay of the side and was later appointed as its captain. He scored over 400 runs a season for Delhi four times. Iyer emerged onto the scenes through the India Under-19 ranks, hitting back-to-back fifties in the 2014 U19 World Cup playoffs to help India finish fifth.

Iyer was bought by KKR in the 2022 mega auction for INR 12.25 crore and was appointed as the captain of the side for the 2022 Indian T20 League. He made his T20 debut for India against New Zealand on 1 November 2017, but he did not bat. In March 2017, he earned a spot in the Test squad and made his ODI debut for India against Sri Lanka on 10 December 2017.
