Timothy Hays David is a Singapore-Australian international cricketer, who was born on March 16, 1996, in Singapore but raised in Western Australia. He is a burly all-rounder, who bats right-handed and bowls off-spin. David is the son of Singaporean cricketer Rod David, who participated in the 1997 ICC Trophy (a qualification tournament for the 1999 World Cup). Tim played international cricket for Singapore between 2019 and 2020 before switching allegiance to Australia.
David made his international debut for Singapore against Qatar in July 2019. He joined the Australian cricket squad, who were impressed by his power-hitting and spin-bowling talent. Despite having played for Singapore, he was qualified to represent Australia under the regulations of the International Cricket Council.
David was named in the Australian national cricket squad for the 2022 World Cup and a series against India. On September 20, 2022, he played his first T20I for Australia against India and scored 54 off 27 balls.
Besides his international and domestic cricket, David has played for various Twenty20 franchise teams. David made his Twenty20 debut for Perth Scorchers in the 2017–18 Big Bash League season (BBL). He was subsequently signed by the Hobart Hurricanes in 2020 and is currently a part of the team.
David joined the 2021 IPL after the Royal Challengers Bangalore hired him for the second phase in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On September 24, 2021, he faced Chennai Super Kings in his IPL debut. At the time, he was yet to play for Australia and became the first Singapore player to play in IPL.
The following year, he signed up with Mumbai Indians but was mostly kept on the bench as the franchise went through a difficult season. Upon his late inclusion, the burly cricketer left an impression as he shot 16 sixes in 86 balls he faced during the season, a record in IPL history as he finished the season with best strike rate.
