Bharadwaj Sai Sudarshan is an uncapped Indian cricketer, who was born on October 15, 2001, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He is primarily a left-handed batter, who can also bowl right-handed leg break. Notably, his father, R Bharadwaj, represented India in Volleyball at the SAFF games 1993 in Dhaka. Also, his mother, Usha Bhardwaj, was a state-level Volleyball player.
Sai first rose to prominence in Raja of Palayampatti Shield (first division of Tamil Nadu cricket) as he scored 635 runs for Alwarpet CC in the 2019-20 season. His batting display opened the door for him in T20 cricket, as he received his maiden Tamil Nadu call-up for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Sudarshan subsequently made his debut in the tournament for Tamil Nadu on November 4, 2021. His debut in the 50-over format came the next month in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the 2021-22 season. Prior to that, he also played for India A in the 2019-20 Under-19 Challenger Trophy while opening the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
However, it was his performance in the Tamil Nadu premiere league that attracted people's attention, as he is currently the most expensive player in the franchise league. Lyca Kovai Kings bought him at an auction for Rs 21.6 Lakhs right before IPL 2023 season.
The player started his TNPL career with a bang in 2021, as he scored 87 runs in 44 balls for Lyca Kovai Kings. Sai was bought in the 2022 IPL mega auction by Gujarat Titans at his base price (20 lakhs) and made his debut in that season against Punjab Kings at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai.
On April 7, 2022, Sai contributed 35 runs in 30 balls, helping Gujarat Titans win the match. His knock attracted attention as he came out to bat abruptly after Vijay Shankar was injured before the match. He went on to win the title with Gujarat Titans.
2023 was an even better season for him as he played several key knocks in the Gujarat franchise-winning run early in the season. The player missed the second half of the league phases due to unknown reasons before coming back for the playoffs and played a superb knock for the GT in the final, where his team lost to CSK in a last-ball thriller.
