Born on born 18 October 1991, Jaydev Unadkat is an Indian bowler who competes for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and Saurashtra in domestic cricket. A well-known force in India's domestic circuit, the left-arm pacer is known for his swift seam bowling.
He first burst onto the scene with impressive spells in the U-19 World Cup in 2010, picking up seven wickets in four games. The same year he managed to get a call-up for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy. His impressive performance in the domestic arena also earned him a contract in Indian Premier League in 2010 after Kolkata Knight Riders snapped him up.
He was further also included in the Indian A team next and impressed in that spell again with 13 wickets against West Indies. On the back of his impressive rise, he was called up to the national team against South Africa. However, Udankat's cricketing journey has been nothing but a topsy-turvy ride.
He experienced a dreadful debut against South Africa and failed to pick a single wicket in the test. He was subsequently dropped in the next match and could not manage to secure his place in the team for a long time. His IPL tenure over the years also did not help him much.
After his underwhelming stint with KKR, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils which also went poorly. But his move to Rising Pune Super Giants changed his fortune and 2017 seemed to be an impressive year for him. He took 24 wickets in that season and the subsequent year, he became the highest-ever purchase in IPL 2018 after Rajasthan Royals signed him for Rs. 11.5 crores. Since then he has played for two more new franchises- Mumbai Indians and the current side Lucknow Super Giants. However, he is yet to deliver the same.
However, after every despair, the left-arm pacer looked at the domestic circuit to make a comeback and Saurashtra reaped the benefits of it. He helped them win two Ranji trophies in 2019-20 and 2022-23. He became the leading wicket-taker in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy, with 67 wickets in ten matches.
Due to his impressive showing and consistent hard work, he also managed to make a comeback in the test squad in 2022 after he was picked for Bangladesh Tour 2022. He somehow has never been the first-choice bowler for any skipper so far however his narrative could be remembered for skill, strength, and perseverance.
