Born on 16 August 1989, Marcus Stoinis is an Australian all-rounder who plays for Lucknow Super Giants in Indian Premier League. He is one of the most sought-after all-rounders in world cricket in the shorter format of the game.
The right-handed destructive middle-order batter not only can single-handedly change the course of the game with the bat but is also a handy medium-pacer who's responsible for breaking partnerships and is quite economical in the death overs.
After struggling in domestic ranks at the beginning and playing for a number of sides, Stoinis first came to prominence while playing for Victoria. He was Victoria's highest run-scorer in the 2014–15 Sheffield Shield season. It earned him a call-up into Australia's team for their limited-overs matches against England in 2015, where he made his debut, playing an ODI and a T20I.
He didn't perform well enough to earn a spot in the national squad permanently at the time, but he maintained his impressive play in first-class cricket. In January 2017, he was chosen for his second ODI and made a remarkable comeback after taking three wickets and scoring 146 runs playing at number 7 to help Australia nearly pull off an improbable victory over New Zealand at Eden Park. Since then he has been in regular contention for the shorter format of the game in the national squad.
Stoinis has been a star performer in T20 tournaments like Big Bash League and Indian Premier League as well. In 2015, he was bought by the Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) in the IPL. Although, he did not play any games and was bought for Rs. 5.5 crore by the Kings XI Punjab in the next season. He had a successful season with them where he scored 146 runs and took 8 wickets in 7 games. Since then he has played for three more franchises.
Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019, Delhi Capitals in 2020 and 2021, and his current side - Lucknow Super Giants having joined them in the 2022 edition.
