Arshdeep Singh is a young Indian fast bowler, who also plays for Punjab in domestic cricket. The left-handed pacer was born on February 5, 1999 in Guna, Madhya Pradesh. Singh first grabbed the public's attention in the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup with a consistent pace of around 145kmph in only two games.
Arshdeep's international debut had to wait despite impressive show in the domestic arena but it did led to him being picked by Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2019. The youngster made three appearances in his first season and was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. The following year turned out to be his breakthrough year as his consistency with the line length and death-over bowling saw him pick 28 wickets in the season.
This left-arm pacer was lauded for an economy rate of 8.27 while his spell of 5/32 runs against Rajasthan Royals stood out. Also, his impressive economy rate of 7.70 for KXIP in 2022 IPL labeled him a death specialist.
His stunning bowling didn't go unnoticed by the BCCI as he was soon in the national team for the T20I series against England in 2022. Notably, in a T20I series against the West Indies the same year, he was awarded the player of the series after picking up seven wickets in five encounters with a 16.14 batting average.
Arshdeep took his form to the T20 World Cup in Australia, where he took 10 wickets in 6 games at an economy rate of 7.80 and was the top wicket-taker for the Men in Blue. He soon played his first ODI during India's tour of New Zealand in November 2022.
Arshdeep faced a fierce backlash and was also called a traitor amid social media abuse after he dropped a catch of Pakistan batsman Asif Ali during an Asia Cup 2022 match, which India went on to lose before the T20 World Cup.
