Hailing from South Africa, Tristan Stubbs is an upcoming sensation of Proteas who represents Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Born on 14 August 2000, Stubbs has built a solid track record in the shorter format of the game by commanding with his aggressive top-order batting and occasional right-arm off-break bowling. He is also a livewire on the field, making him an asset for any side.
Stubbs played his first first-class game in the domestic circuit for Eastern Province against South Western Districts in the 2019–20 edition of the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup. The 6-foot-4 cricketer made his T20 debut for the Warriors against the Dolphins in 2021. That tenure proved to be his breakthrough season in professional cricket. Stubbs scored 293 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 183.12 and was the second-highest run-scorer in the CSA T20 Challenge tournament. He delivered a glimpse of his talent as an explosive middle-order batsman. He also produced an impressive performance in the CSA Provincial One Day Challenge where he recorded 154 runs in 6 innings.
On the back of his meteoric rise, he got his maiden call-up to the senior team in 2022. He was included in the T20I series against India. He played two matches in that series but did not get the chance to bat. He finally got a shot to perform against the away series in England and he announced his arrival in style. Stubbs scored 28-ball 72 against England with some explosive hits. His ODI debut came a year later in 2023 after he was included in the team against West Indies.
The wicket-keeper batsman started his IPL journey with five-time IPL champions the Mumbai Indians in 2022. After being unsold in the auction, Mumbai roped him in as a replacement for injured Tymal Mills at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. However, he scored just two runs in two games. But Mumbai kept faith in the youngster and retained him for the 2023 edition as well.
