Wriddhiman Saha is a wicket-keeper and right-handed batsman, who played international cricket for India. Saha was born on October 24, 1984 in Siliguri, West Bengal and is known for his exceptional wicket-keeping skills and agility while often been arguably regarded as the best wicket-keeper in the country. He was picked for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy in 2006-07 after the side's regular wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta joined the Indian Cricket League.
In 2008, Saha's outstanding performance, including a century in his debut Ranji match for Bengal, convinced Kolkata Knight Riders to sign him up for the IPL. He was associated with the Kolkata franchise for the next three seasons.
Saha was later released by the franchise and was picked at the auction by Chennai Super Kings in 2011, for whom he played till 2013. In the 2014 IPL, he was purchased by Kings XI Punjab, and notably set a milestone in that season. The wicket-keeper scored a hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders (the season's winner) in the IPL final and became the first player to do so.
Saha continued for the franchise till 2017 and then played for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2018 to 2021. He then became IPL champion with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022.
Saha made it to the Indian squad as a pure batsman for the Test series against South Africa in 2010 as MS Dhoni was irreplacable in the Indian team. He didn't get to keep wickets for India untill 2016 during the West Indies series. Following that tournament, Saha made it memorable as he became the third wicket-keeper in Indian cricket history to be part of six dismissals in a Test match.
Wriddhiman Saha married Romi Saha in 2011 after being in a relationship for 4 years. The duo met through the social media platform 'Orkut' in 2007. They also have an adorable daughter named Anvi Saha.
At the age of 37, Saha was dropped from the Indian Test side in 2022. The keeper himself revealed that coach Rahul Dravid told him he doesn't fit into the management's plan due to his age. It was also revealed that the player lost his place in the team despite assurance form then-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
Amid the saga, Saha took to Twitter to reval that he was bullied by a 'respected journalist' after refusing to give an interview. Following his allegations, the BCCI committee investigated the matter and the journalist was banned for two years from interviewing any cricketer.
A lot happened in the cricketer's life upon Team India snub as Saha's commitment to Bengal cricket was also questioned by its board's (CAB) member after he decided to skip the white-ball domestic season. The turmoil led to him quitting Bengal and move to Tripura, for whom he has been plying trade ever since. Efforts have been made to bring him back to the Bengal side.
